<lj:music>Wang Chung- "To Live and Die in L.A."</lj:music>

Not really surprised or shocked, since rumors had been swirling since before Guiding Light went off of the air. But it did seem kinda cold to announce this to the show's cast & crew about losing their jobs just a few weeks before Christmas, even if the final ep won't be until next September.

    <lj:music>Slave- Watching You</lj:music>

Finally got the chance to sit down and watch these last few eps of one of my fav soaps earlier today and I guess it finally hit me, the fact that it's really over. Not that it came as some sudden shock or anything, since its cancellation was announced months ago.

But I think its more the fact that I'd pretty much followed it off and on for the better part of nearly 20 years. And with daytime soaps as a genre overall now said to be basically airing on borrowed time, it just left me with the sad realization that this is probably the beginning of the end as TV networks continue to look towards less-expensive production alternatives to put on in their place.

Hit almost 80 degrees earlier today, now temps are down in the mid 30's with a rain/sleet mix coming down along with thunder and lightning booming outside. Found the YouTube references throughout interesting, given the current state of the Marvel/Disney 'issues' regarding their old animation catalog.

And Yost's comments about Firestar actually made me glad that she decided to retire towards the beginning of CW. At least I got a better Iceman/Firestar userpic than my original out of this...

After seeing it recommended on the Kiotr board a few months back, finally got the chance to see it on DVD. Overall, a pretty good movie and definitely gives some insight into life in the Russian mob, particularly with bonus feature interviews of the cast and director.

Well, I guess it's Bi-yearly Journal Entry time...

So, having finished both season/volumes/however-you-want-to-group-them of Justice League Unlimited on DVD a couple months back, my interest was piqued enough to check out the new Justice League comic series. Which thoroughly impressed me. Enough so, that I've even started reading JSA too.

Pretty cool stuff, so far. At least, as critiqued through my own rudimentary knowledge-level of the 'other' universe anyways...

Kill Bill, finally watched it

After much procrastinating, and having had the DVD's in my possession for the better part of six months, I finally got around to watching both volumes of Kill Bill.

Personally, I think Bill should've been offed in volume 1. As much as I liked the general premise, I thought this story probably could've been told in one movie, by paring down some of the exposition in Volume 2 and combining them into a single 2 to 2-1/2 hour flick.

But that's just my humble opinion, for what it's worth.

First LJ Post/ramble about comics, mainly DC

Well, I figured since I've got this live-journal account, I might as well do something with it.

Gotta thank Amokitty, seeing as I wouldn't have even found the kiotrlivejournal page without her. That, and I kinda borrowed my userpic from her extensive image gallery on her Kiotr site.

Wait, I guess there's really no 'kinda' about it.

But, the Exiles cover of Kitty and Piotr just seemed so appropriate, since that book has probably had the most overall impact on me since returning to the world of comics a couple years ago.

Also have to tell Amokitty I loved the new additions to her gallery, especially Classic X-Men #29. I remember when I first got into comics years ago, and having no idea about who the X-character outside of those on X-Men:TAS were, and first saw that issue with Arcade on the cover at the front of one of the bins at my local comic shop, which has long since gone the way of the local arcade. Just one of those things you always remember, I guess.

Speaking of comics, I've been picking up more from the DC variety than I ever have in the past and expanding my very limited knowledge of the 'other' universe, mainly due to Batman, Detective Comics, and 52. But have also been reading Teen Titans steadily for the last 4-5 months, and even picked up the first couple Wonder Woman issues since its relaunch, out of curiosity because of Heinberg's work on Young Avengers. Still don't feel much in the way of Superman though lately, and haven't picked up any of those issues. I even tried Green Lantern Corps, but didn't make it past issue 2 on that one either. I know Guy Gardner's role is supposed to be the team badass that you love to hate, but the few times I've read something with him in it, he just comes off to me as an ass that I don't much care about. Maybe it's just because I haven't read any good stories with him in it?

Anyways, I've also been checking out Justice League episodes since they started rerunning them on Boomerang. Haven't seen all of them, but enough to have an ongoing interest, and even caught a some later JLU ones on YouTube.

Kind of like Superfriends-rebooted, but in a good way.
